Middletown Public Schools is proud to announce that 16 exceptional graduating high school seniors have achieved the hard-earned and prestigious Connecticut State Seal of Biliteracy. This remarkable accomplishment serves as a testament to the students' mastery of two or more languages and highlights their exceptional linguistic abilities.
The Connecticut State Seal of Biliteracy is a distinguished recognition awarded to graduating seniors who have demonstrated proficiency in English and at least one additional language. It is a highly esteemed achievement that showcases these students' commitment to embracing and nurturing diverse languages and cultures, making them an inspiration to their fellow students, teachers, and the entire Middletown community.
"These 16 graduating seniors have set an incredible example for all of us by earning the Connecticut State Seal of Biliteracy," said Dr. Alberto Vázquez Matos, Superintendent of Schools. "Bilingualism is not just about speaking more than one language; it is a gateway to understanding and appreciating different cultures, fostering empathy, and building bridges across communities. These students have demonstrated a deep understanding of the importance of language as a tool for connection and have embraced their role as global citizens."
Dr. Vázquez Matos, himself bilingual and biliterate, understands firsthand the power of language and the opportunities it can unlock. As the first Latino Superintendent of Schools in our district, he has been a vocal advocate for embracing linguistic and cultural diversity in education.
These students’ accomplishment demonstrates a deep understanding of the cultural significance and global impact of language. The linguistic abilities of these graduating seniors will undoubtedly open doors to a myriad of opportunities in an ever-increasingly interconnected world. We applaud their remarkable achievement and celebrate their success.
